IN CIVIL CONSTRUCTION PIPE LAYING (STREAM 3)

// COURSE OVERVIEW

This nationally accredited qualification reflects the role of a skilled operator working in pipe laying in the civil construction industry.  Pipe layers install underground pipes on major infrastructure projects such as highways, dams and the drainage of airfields and sub-divisions.  These pipes may be constructed from steel or plastic and are used for stormwater, sewerage, water supply and gas pipelines that may extend many hundreds of kilometres.

This is on-the-job training so you need to be employed in the civil construction industry to undertake this course.

// ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no formal entry requirements for this course however participants are required to have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instructions.

To study as a trainee within this program you must be indentured as a trainee with your employer. The minimum age for a trainee is 13 years of age as stated within The Child Employment Act, unless otherwise stated.

// DELIVERY METHODOLOGY

On-the-job/Work Based – Students will complete all their training and assessments on the job, with the exception of the electives RIIWHS302D – Implement traffic management (theory component) and RIIWHS202D – Enter and work in confined spaces.  These electives will be delivered through attending classroom training.

// RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

All students will be offered the opportunity to participate in a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process if they believe that they have suitable skills and knowledge through work experience, formal and informal training and / or general life experiences.

// FUNDING AND FEES

Fees are subject to change annually.  Fees are payable at the time of enrolment.

The User Choice program provides a public funding contribution towards the cost of training and assessment services for eligible Queensland apprentices and trainees. 

Traineeship: eligible trainees that meet the Queensland state funding requirements will be charged a set fee per nominal hour. These fees are calculated at a regulated rate of $1.60 per nominal hour. The fees may vary depending on the electives selected at time of signup.  Concession rates apply for students who hold a current Health Care Card or who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander are calculated at a regulated rate of $0.64 per nominal hour.
