Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross Cutting

This course provides formal training in chainsaw maintenance & cross cutting accreditation e.g. forestry, tree removal, firewood, emergency services, farmers and other timber workers.

Maintenance:
Covers: the skills and knowledge required to inspect a chainsaw before use; determine its condition relating to safety and effectiveness of operation; identify and conduct necessary repairs and maintenance, both routine and periodic. This exercise does not require that the Learner have any specialist mechanical training or qualifications; only demonstrate skill and knowledge at a level that could be considered as a reasonable basic understanding of chainsaw mechanical equipment. The chainsaw must in a safe condition i.e. safeguards in place and working (particularly chain brake).

Trim and cut felled trees:
Covers the skills and knowledge required to plan and carry out chainsaw operation to trim and cut felled trees. This exercise does not require that the Learner have any specialist mechanical training or qualifications; only demonstrate skill and knowledge at a level that could be considered as a reasonable basic understanding of chainsaw operation. The skills and knowledge required to implement the techniques described in the training guide issued (i.e. relevant to chainsaw operation) and the material found in the OE Manufacturer’s manual.
